Tournament Director's Welcome to the 2022 Season
I really enjoy watching the winter Olympics every four years. Seeing these world class athletes compete always gets me thinking and reflecting on sports, expectations, and life. For example, there are Olympians in Beijing who have no expectation of winning a medal. Watching the sheer joy on their faces when they cross the finish line with their personal best or landing some fancy, twisting snowboard move they have never landed (sorry if I offend someone by not knowing trick names) is refreshing.
It reminds me that the same should hold true in golf. Those athletes are competing against their personal bests. This is exactly what golfers should be doing on every shot, hole, nine, and round. I think as adults, coaches, parents, grandparents, etc. we sometimes forget that. As we enter this upcoming golf season I hope we can all (speaking to myself first and foremost) recalibrate expectations and remember the joy in competing and achieving our personal best. And like so many athletes in the Olympics, continue to support and cheer on everyone else along the way.
As for the upcoming season, there are far fewer changes than in past years We have added one new venue for the season. There will be a regular season event at Reading Country Club. As more of our tour lives in Berks, York, and Dauphin counties than before, it is important that we continue to branch out our event venues. Reading Country Club is an exciting addition for us.
Back by popular demand we will be running our “Big C” Scholarship Tournament this spring. It will be held Saturday, April 23 at Fairview. Registration for this event is already open. Hopefully you will consider finding a partner to play. Information is found in the links at the top of the page.
We also want to emphasize the need for each family to plan to volunteer to help at one of our tournaments this summer. When COVID hit a couple of years ago we got away from using parent volunteers and our staff has had to take on too much of the work the past two summers. We need your help to make our tournaments top notch for all who participate. See the Volunteer Page in the Tour Info menu for more information.
I am looking forward to another outstanding LCJGT season. Don’t forget that registration will open on March 1 with the rules videos and quiz becoming available in May.
